Essay Comparing the Role Models in Beowulf and Sir Gawain and the Green

Good examples in Beowulf and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight Greatness has consistently been a righteousness adored by society. Authors all through the ages have attempted to catch the substance of greatness in their works, regularly as a title character, who is the exemplification of flawlessness, typifying all the perfect attributes fundamental for one to be viewed as a fantastic citizen. Be that as it may, the measures for greatness are not generally settled upon. Despite what might be expected, exclusive's concept of greatness might just be another's concept of unremarkableness. However, human instinct is consistent enough that by breaking down various scholarly saints, one can find the gauges of greatness that are basic to various people groups. The title characters in both Beowulf and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight were both viewed as paragons of greatness by their people groups. However, upon close assessment of the particular activities of these characters, distinct contrasts rise. While Gawain is highminded and embodies benevolence, Beowulf's courage is damaged by his quest for popularity and riches, which appears to overwhelm all his activities. The inconsistency can be clarified by a relevant investigation of both saints. Gawain's code of valor underscored flawlessness and hence he is impeccable. Beowulf on the opposite sticks to the code of valor, which is considerably less rigid on man's activities, and significantly more not entirely clear. Gawain's activities mirror the social mores of fourteenth century England, where a decent knight was relied upon to hold fast immovably to the code of gallantry. Gawain is the model knight, chivalrous and valorous, also an ardent Christian. Gawain's brilliant character qualities are supported by his status as an individual from King Arthur's court. They didn't siphon on to society and channel valuable assets as do a large number of the present degenerate pioneers. Unexpectedly, they offered back to their kin and satisfied the antiquated thought of the productive member of society as first progressed by Plato. Present society would be the better for it if more individuals like Gawain and Beowulf were conceived. They were genuinely phenomenal citizenry. Â Works Cited and Consulted Bede, The Venerable. Argumentative Essay Writing - How to Design an Argumentative Essay

Argumentative Essay Writing - How to Design an Argumentative EssayOne of the easiest ways to write an argumentative essay is to start with a topic that you know well. With that said, it should be noted that the topic of your essay may not necessarily be the topic that you choose to bring up in the conclusion of your argumentative essay. One thing to keep in mind when writing an argumentative essay is that you can always change the topic of your essay as the argument has gone on.It may sound like a good way to come up with the topic, but remember that the topics you will be bringing up in the conclusion of your essay could have already been discussed a couple of times. Even if the topic you will be using is new to you, it is always best to check out the idea before using it in your essay. This way, you will be able to avoid too much word repetition and have your essay flow better. To make sure that your essay flows, you can always work your essay from the first paragraph right up to th e last paragraph. By doing this, you will be able to catch all the main ideas that you have covered in your essay. You may not be able to recall the main points of the argument at the end of the paper, but at least you will be able to get some ideas out of your essay. You may want to also consider starting your essay with a relevant fact about the topic you are going to discuss. Remember that a good writer never uses two completely different topics in the same essay. When writing an argumentative essay, it is important to mention any facts or topics that will further the argument of your essay. The most important thing to remember when writing an argumentative essay is that you have to be able to cover all the major topics that the topic may cover. Before you continue with your essay, you may want to do some research on the topic. If you are doing your thesis statement on the topic, you will be able to gather enough information to support your main points. The best way to do this is t o do a brief search on the topic online or offline to gather enough information that you can bring up in your essay. One way to proceed with the main topic of your essay is to have an outline that outlines the main points of your argument. If you have already written the essay, you can easily refer back to the outline when writing your argumentative essay. By creating an outline, you will be able to plan your entire argument without having to constantly look at your paper.Another easy way to write an argumentative essay is to be creative. Having a clear idea of what you want to talk about is one thing, but if you don't know how to go about it, you will end up writing something that may not hold up well. Don't be afraid to mix things up with your ideas. One of the easiest ways to finish your essay is to make it flow. You may want to consider starting your essay with a topic that you know a lot about and work your way through to the topic that you know the least about. This will allow y ou to have a good knowledge of the topic and still be able to write an argumentative essay. Combining two topics that are important will definitely help you write an essay that is effective and will stand out as well.

Analysis Of The Book 1984 By George Orwell - 2087 Words

George Orwell’s novel 1984 written nearly seventy years ago tells the tale of Winston Smith through a dystopian culture controlled by a government that is always watching. The novel was meant to deter people away from rising totalitarian societies at the time like Germany and the Soviet Union. Winston’s first diary entry depicts the events of his seemingly normal day. He begins with, â€Å"Last night to the flicks. All war films. One very good one of a ship full of refugees being bombed somewhere in the Mediterranean.† He goes on to write about an overweight refugee in the film attempting to swim away, only to be shot multiple times by the gunmen. As the man went underwater, Winston says the audience â€Å"shout[ed] with laughter when he sank.† Orwell continues to write this gruesome entry, making the audiences so unbelievably horrifying with their continuous laughter at suffering. This conglomeration of heartless people would only be found in a book, right? Orwell wrote this for people suffering in countries with political dominance. The citizens gave in to what the government put in front of them, and in that molded their value system to make even the â€Å"wonderful shot of a child s arm going up up up right up into the air† cause the audience to jump for joy. Orwell’s entire novel is terrifying to say in the least, but what bothers me the most about the mentioned diary entry is realizing that this is not far off from where we are as a society watching movies. It is ironic in America, today, one must have a drivers license to operate a vehicle, a permit to own a gun and even a license to own a dog, but one does not have to have training or a license in order to become a parent. Describe the work and organisation of the people working at Bletchley Park Essay Example

Describe the work and organisation of the people working at Bletchley Park Essay Example Describe the work and organisation of the people working at Bletchley Park Essay Describe the work and organisation of the people working at Bletchley Park Essay Throughout WWII determining the combat plans of the enemy proved to be imperative. Britain was finding the war very difficult in the first two years and the ability to foretell when and where hits were going to take place was crucial. The main institution that mastered this vital war technique was Bletchley Park. This was a large Mansion into which the government moved its Govt Code and Cipher School. The main thing that Bletchley Park, under the dummy name of Captain Ridleys Shooting Party was aiming to achieve was to be able to crack the codes that the Germans used to broadcast their war plans between each other. The main code being used by the Germans was called the Enigma code, it was very important that they crack this code as the war was not going well for the Allies in 1939. The Germans were prevailing in most of Europe and Britain had been saved by the Royal Air Force who won the Battle of Britain. In response to this Hitler launched the Blitz which involved night time saturation bombing (or raids) of large inner city areas which was theoretically to cripple industrial productivity and lower morale. This was supposed to make Britons more desperate for peace. The code cracking began in that year. There had been attempts to crack the codes by the Polish but were not secret enough about it and so the Germans just kept changing their codes more regularly. There was a wide array of people with different skills working at Bletchley Park. Most of the employees were maths orientated minds, chosen from top universities, particularly from Oxford and Cambridge. There were many different departments e.g. one for army codes and one for naval codes and each department had its own hut somewhere on the premises. Source D is a description of the work in hut 3 it says Material came in from hut 6They had to translate them into English This shows just how departmentalised the establishment was and how each hut was crucial to the operation. The workers were sworn to absolute secrecy and were simply told that what they were doing was extremely important for their country. The confidentiality was even mentioned and praised by Sir Winston Churchill who said that Bletchley Park was The goose that laid the golden egg and never cackled An example of this concealment is found in source A. I hadnt a clue what was going on in the rest of the park and nobody else had a clue what we were doing, except the real high-ups. This source suggests that although each hut knew exactly what they were doing for their department but did not know what happened in other huts and how their work fitted into the jigsaw of Bletchley Parks code breaking. The high-ups that the source mentions perhaps include Alan Turing, Max Newman, Tommy Flowers and Heath Robinson all of whom had great influences on the building of the Colossus computer and the cracking of the Enigma and Lorenz ciphers. The reason the government chose their code breakers so carefully was because the task at hand was extremely difficult. The chances of breaking the codes were very slim, a massive 150,000,000,000,000,000,000 to 1. To help them to even start breaking the codes the intelligent scholar-turned-code breakers built the worlds first computer, Colossus. This proved vital for cracking both the main enigma code and also the Lorenz cipher, used by higher up ranks such as the generals and even Hitler himself. The workers monitored every message whi ch was sent from listening stations and passed them on to Bletchley Park for these workers to attempt to interpret. The actual work at Bletchley Park involved was quite complicated however because of the wide range of workers, each person would be doing the same thing over and over, for this reason the job was often very boring. The hours were also long considering the boring and yet difficult work such as writing down ninety letters a minute which had to be understood from Morse code. Source H shows the confined space in which the many people would have to carry out their monotonous tasks for many long hours. The job was also often very mystifying as most people did not have clearance to fully understand the degree of importance of the job; this made many people unhappy because as far as they were concerned they could have been doing the tedious job for nothing. Source B suggests this. It is a woman who worked there, upon arriving she said that Most people thoughtthat nothing would happen and we would all go back to London. This shows the lack of understanding, on the workers part, of the scale of the operation. After reviewing the evidence from the sources and working from my own knowledge and deduction I think it was vital to crack the German codes with the best intelligence there was and to keep the fact that they were being broken a secret, however, I think that the hours of tedium were at times unnecessary.

Apple iPad Mini Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Apple iPad Mini - Assignment Example Apple Inc. is one of the largest producers of electronics, computers, and software manufacturers. The company is among the top ten mobile phone production companies of 2012 (Gartner, 2012), and it was recognized as the most powerful brand in 2012 (Badenhausen, 2012). To determine the quality level, iPad Mini must be reviewed from three different aspects. The first is its build quality. iPad Mini has a tough body made from aluminum making it lighter than its predecessors. The second aspect is its screen resolution. The screen resolution of iPad Mini is 163 pixels per inch; whereas the resolution of the tablets provided by Apple’s competitors is 216 pixels per inch. The 163 ppi resolution fails to deliver the display quality standards that have been set by iPad third generation. The third feature is the battery time of iPad Mini. The iPad Mini does a fair job when it comes to the battery life. Compared to the size and resolution of the device, iPad Mini does quite a decent job. However, when the battery life is compared with other products in the market the battery life of iPad Mini is quite disappointing. As with every Apple product the packaging of iPad Mini is always attractive. The box measures 5.75x8.25x1.5 inches. The iPad Mini’s box comprises of a USB cable, wall socket adaptor, and iPad quick start sheet. Effects of imagination on a child from the perspective of Peter Pan by Essay

Effects of imagination on a child from the perspective of Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie - Essay Example As his life is a life of dreams, his real life only being in his imagination, the writer will show how he goes between the need of nurturing and the need of nature or his concept of reality. A conclusion will be made associating the need of Peter Pan in an adults' society. We all wish to live in a wonderful perfect family with a strong mother figure. In chapter 7 Peter had saved the life of the Redskins who referred to him as "The great white father"." Secretly Wendy sympathised with them a little but she was far too loyal a housewife to listen to any complaints against father. "Father knows best", she always said..." Peter Pan served as a father figure to two groups, the set of Indians and the lost boys. He would never admit is as "it was only in Peter's absence that the lost boys could speak of mothers" (chapter 2) In chapter 6, the Little House, the lost boys "went on their knees, and holding out their arms cried, "Oh Wendy lady, be our Mother." "There was a step above, and Wendy, you may be sure was the first to recognize it. "Children, I hear your father's step. He likes you to meet him at the door." At end of the chapter, "Dear Peter, with such a large family, of course, I have now passed by best, but you don't want to change me do you?" "No Wendy... I was just think, it is only make-believe, isn't it, that I am their father. It would make me so old to be their real father." Wendy then asks."Peter what are your feelings for me? " "Those of a devoted son". The purpose was to illustrate the use of the imagination to nurture children who don't have the love of a mother and father figure. Peter Pan and Wendy formed a surrogate family for a short while. A wonderful transition from the imagination of nurture to the imagination of nature is the use of the clock. Hook was not angry to have lost his arm, he said "I want Peter Pan, who first gave the brut(the crocodile) its taste for me...by lucky chance it swallow a clock which goes tick tick inside. "When you wan t the time on the island was to find the crocodile, and hen stay near him till the clock struck" (chapter 10)He is afraid of the crocodile when he no longer can hear the tick tock of the clock, he will lose his life. This is a child's imagination of death (Chapter 5 ) . He can prevent himself from dieing. Another more playful side of childhood is to use the imagination to pretend that he can change the nature of time, events, school, people etc...."I shall pour my medicine into Nana's bowl, and she will drink it, think it is milk!" (chapter 3) Mr Darling is completely in the role of a child, the dog is in the role of a nanny, and the children are acting as though they were adults. The imagination of nature is the concept of what goes on in the present. Children think about the here and now. There is no concept of time for any of the children. "The boys on the island vary...when they seem to be growing up, which is against the rules, Peter thins them out". (chapter 5) ""He did this b ecause there is a saying in the Neverland that, every time you breathe, a grown-up dies; and Peter was killing them off vindictively as fast as possible". (chapter 11) A child's imagination dreams of a world of being able to live without the constraints of adults. What fun to have control over all the grown-up world, not to have to take medicine, and not to have to do school work. To live in a place where one could play to his heart's content. These two concepts interchange in a child's head. Wendy dreams of

Lit Review on Sociopath Essay Example for Free

Lit Review on Sociopath Essay Antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) is characterized by a lack of regard for the moral or legal standards in the local culture. There is a marked inability to get along with others or abide by societal rules (APA, 2000). This pattern of behavior is seen in children or young adolescents and persists into adulthood. It is also often known as sociopath, psychopath or dyssocial personality disorder. People who are diagnosed with ASPD have no conscience, move through society as predators and pay little attention to the consequences of their action. They cannot understand feelings of guilt or remorse. Their lack of empathy is often because of their strong sense of self-worth and a superficial charm that tends to mask an inner indifference to the need or feelings of the other. They are also really good at manipulating situations. However, sociopaths with lower education are still really good liars but tend to be more violent and aren’t as good at manipulation. (NICE, 2010) Psychopath is actually different from sociopath. According to Professor Alan Basham from EWU’s Psychology Department, psychopath is more like an advance version of sociopath. They don’t have capacity to feel attachment, empathy or shame. They simply don’t care about the others. They are even capable of killing their friends or families. Sociopaths are not necessary killers. They manipulate to gain their own benefit but still can feel emotional attachment to other individuals. The sociopath will still lack empathy and attachment for society and won’t feel guilt harming a stranger or breaking the law in any form, but won’t lack empathy for those to whom he feels attached. Both genetic and environmental factors influence the development of ASPD. Adopted children have an increased risk of developing ASP D. Children born to parents diagnosed with ASPD but adopted into other families resemble their biological more than their adoptive parents. However, the environment of the adoptive home may also lower the childs risk of developing ASPD. Also, both male and female can be sociopath or psychopath. (NICE, 2010) â€Å"Attachment is the process through which people develop specific, positive emotional bonds with others. John Bowlby proposed the notion of the attachment behavior system as an organized pattern of infant signal and adult responses that lead to a protective, trusting relationship during the very earliest stage of development.† (Newman Newman, 2006) Through the attachment theory, we know that children learn how to love, trust and care about each other by learning this from their parents in early childhood. As a child grown up in an abusive environment, they usually lack of parents caring and led to failure to attach. â€Å"Factors and events have been linked to developmental psychopathology and its antisocial consequences or sequelae. These include abuse and neglect, exposure to interpersonal/interparental violence, intergenerational substance abuse, maladaptive attachments in early life, maltreatment such as abandonment, and neurodevelopment.† (Armstrong Kelley, 2008) The experience of rejection or loss of love during early childhood appears to create a root cause for underlying emotional pain and poor individuation that are subsequently played out in abusive behaviors. Everyone is their enemies, they have to protect themselves and that is how they become anti-social. â€Å"Multiple interacting forces contribute to childhood maltreatment and trauma, leading to the development of psychopathology. How early interpersonal relationships are formed may be a contributory mechanism in coping strategies later in life. These factors in turn may contribute to a lack of basic trust, detachment from relationships, and affective experiences causing maladaptive behaviors later in life.† (Armstrong Kelley, 2008) â€Å"The therapists primary task is to establish a relationship with the patient, who has usually had very few healthy relationships in his or her life and is unable to trust others. The patient should be given the opportunity to establish positive relationships with as many people as possible and be encouraged to join self-help groups or prosocial reform organizations.† (NICE, 2010) However, Antisocial Personality Disorder is highly unresponsive to any form of treatment, usually because persons with ASPD rarely seek treatment voluntarily. They do not think there is anything wrong with them, it is always the others. If they do seek help, it is usually in an attempt to find relief from depression or other forms of emotional distress. â€Å"Given that those with antisocial personality disorder actively resist having to accept help, and that coercion into treatment directly challenges their core personality structure, it is clear that therapeutic interventions are also likely to be under threat in such circumstances. Hence, one might expect a high drop-out rate from treatment and indeed that is what has been found.†(Huband, 2007) Also, many people who are diagnose with ASPD use therapy sessions to learn how to turn the system to their advantage. Their pervasive pattern of manipulation and deceit extends to all aspects of their life, including therapy. Generally, their behavior must be controlled in a setting where they know they have no chance of getting around the rules. Medication could only treat some of the symptoms of ASPD. The only solution would be prevention. â€Å"Antisocial Personality Disorder usually follows a chronic and unremitting course from childhood or early adolescence into adult life. The impulsiveness of the disorder often leads to in prison or an early death through accident, homicide or suicide. There is some evidence that the worst behaviors that define Antisocial Personality Disorder diminish by midlife; the more overtly aggressive symptoms of the disorder occur less frequently in older patients. This improvement is especially true of criminal behavior but may apply to other antisocial acts as well. (NICE, 2010) Therefore, to prevent antisocial personality disorder must begin in early childhood, before the children are at risk for developing conduct disorder. Education for parenthood to lower the incidence of child abuse is necessary. â€Å"The only long-term solution, I believe, is Westmans proposal that we require prospective parents to meet the same minimum requirements that we now expect of couples hoping to adopt a baby: a mature man and woman, sufficiently committed to parenthood to be married to each other, who are self-supporting and neither criminal nor actively psychotic.† (Lykken 1996) References 1. The Crucible of War by Fred Anderson :: Civil War Slavery American History Essays

The Crucible of War by Fred Anderson An account of ex-slave and abolitionist Frederick Douglass opens this chapter. When news arrived of the Confederacy firing on Fort Sumter, Douglass cheered the outbreak of the fighting and Lincoln's vow to maintain the Union. Douglass recognized that the Union was fighting solely to uphold the Constitution and preserve the nation, not to end slavery; but he also understood, much earlier than most, that a war to save the Union would inevitably become a war to end slavery. "And the War Came" President Lincoln was determined to stop the spread of secession and to take no action that would push the still undecided Upper South into seceding. He sought to reassure the Deep South of the safety of slavery, giving Unionists there the possibility of reasserting themselves and overturning the secession decision, but at the same time he made it clear that he was determined to uphold the Union. His Confederate counterpart, Jefferson Davis, was equally resolved to see an independent Confederate States of America. While neither man sought war, both knew one side would provoke it sooner or later, and the war would come. The Surrender of Fort Sumter Fort Sumter, a federally manned fort inside Charleston harbor, was a hateful symbol to the Confederacy of the nation it had abandoned. Union forces at the fort were running short of supplies and, unless they were reprovisioned, would have to evacuate. Lincoln knew that to surrender Sumter would be to abandon his commitment to preserving the Union, so he sent a relief expedition, telling Confederates that there would be no attempt to send troops or munitions unless the supply ships were attacked. The Confederates faced a dilemma: If they allowed the ships through, they would be submitting to federal authority, but taking the fort would make them the aggressors. The decision was made on April 12. When Fort Sumter's Union commander refused the southern order to surrender, Confederate shore batteries began shelling the fort, which surrendered on April 14, 1861. The Civil War had begun. The Upper South Chooses Sides Lincoln's proclamation calling for the loyal states to muster 75,000 volunteers to put down the rebellion forced the other slave states to choose sides. Over the next five weeks, Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina seceded. The Confederacy now contained eleven of the fifteen slave states. In the border slave states of Kentucky, Delaware, Maryland, and Missouri, secession was thwarted by a combination of local Unionism and federal intervention, including the use of martial law to suppress Confederate sympathizers.

Reaction paper on “The little prince” Essay

I. Brief Summary of the Book The story begins when the narrator look back his childhood life. He drew a boa constrictor digesting an elephant. He showed it to the adults he failed to get hearten with their comments. He felt bad with the grown-ups because they told him to stop his drawing career, instead became a pilot, as they believe that it is the sensible thing to do. So he decided to became a pilot and live his life alone. One day, his plane crashed in the middle of the Sahara desert, a thousand miles from any human habitation. At his first night, he went to sleep, he was awakened by the odd voice came from the little boy who asked him to draw a sheep. He was surprised of what he saw. He drew the sheep that the boy wanted, but again he failed by his drawing until he came up with a box and threw out an explanation to it. That is how he made his acquaintance to the little prince. He took him a long time to know where he came from, but little by little he learned that the prince came from asteroid B-612. Everything there is small. Through their conversation, everything was revealed to him. The little prince took much care of his planet. He doesn’t want anything destroyed his home. One day, a rose appeared on his planet. For him, it is the most beautiful creature ever. He fell in love with it but he caught the rose lied to him. So he decided to leave her and not to trust the rose anymore. To cure his loneliness, he went to the other planets to explore. He found himself in the near planet where he met the king who’s clad in royal purple and ermine, which was at the same time both simple and majestic seated upon the throne. For him, all men are just a subject. The king believed that he can rule over everything even the moon, the stars and the sun. Then the little prince asked him to order the sun to set. But the king can’t do that just right away. So the little prince decided to leave even though the king offered him to be a minister in his planet. He thought to himself that the grown-ups are very strange. In the second planet, he met the conceited man who believed that he is the most handsome, best dressed, and richest and the most intelligent man in that planet. He thought that the  little prince is just an admirer. But the little prince him remind him that he is the only man in that planet. Then he leaved the conceited man with his thought that grown-ups are very odd. In the third planet, he met the tippler who lived alone with his collection of empty bottles and full bottles. He spent his time in drinking just to forget the ashamed of drinking. Little prince puzzled and thought that grown-ups are very, very odd as he continued his journey. In the fourth planet, he met the businessman who was very busy that don’t even notice his arrival. The businessman count the stars and write the numbers on a paper then put it on his bank for so many years because he claimed that he own the stars. But little prince explained to him that he just wasting his time in a matter of consequences just what he did in his flower. Then he continued his journey. In the fifth planet, he met the lamplighter. It was the smallest of all but it was strange. The lamplighter was forever putting out his lamp and lightning it again. He said that he just followed the orders. The little prince thought that the lamplighter was so faithful to his orders. In the sixth planet, he met the geographer. His planet was the most magnificent but he has no way of knowing if there are mountains, rivers, or seas in planet because it is not important for him to waste his time to explore. He can’t leave his desk. He just wrote on his thick book the informati on that the explorer gave to him. He advised the little prince to visit the earth because it has a good reputation. The seventh planet he went is the earth. He lands in the middle of the desert and can’t find any humans. Instead, he met a snake who was pleased to stay in the little prince company because he is innocent and honest in all matters and its poison can send back the little prince to its own home. But little prince ignored the offers and continued to explore. He then found a three-petal flower, climb the highest mountain where he found the echo that makes him confused. He also found a rose garden, which surprises and depresses him because his rose had told him that she was the only one of her kind. He met a fox whom he look after and attempts to tame. He also met some humans, who seemed strange to him. A railway switchman who is unsatisfied, and knows people are unsatisfied, except for children who are the only ones that know what they are looking for. And a merchant, who sells pills that, will quench thirst and save valuable time. The story of the little prince was ended in the desert where he was with the narrator  pilot. They finally find a well to satisfied their thirst and they both agree in knowing that people didn’t see the truly importance of life but just lead mechanical or an empty lives. However, the little prince missed his planet so much that he looked for the snake again to bite him and send him back to his planet. But before he leaved, he gave laughing stars to the narrator pilot. And the plane was able to fix then. He is confident that the little prince has returned to his asteroid. The narrator looked at the lovely and sad landscape of the desert and to the star of his new friend that brightly shining in the sky. II. Analysis of the book’s content The moral is the importance of looking, listening and understanding, exploring and experiencing to find the real and true meaning of a thing. At the beginning of the story, the narrator point out that the grown-ups doesn’t see the real meaning of his drawings, instead, they just look at the surface without even understanding and knowing its deeper meaning. Grown-ups forgot how to appreciate little thing, how to understand life better, how to learn from own mistakes and how to live simply, and how to value true friendship. This story reminds us not to be like the grown-ups who don’t care anyone, just himself. Not to be like the rose who is liar, obsessed and very demanding. Not to be like king who rules the things that shouldn’t be ruled. Not to be a conceited man who is self-centered. Not to be a tippler who is nothing to do but to drink liquor forever just to remove his ashamed of drinking. Not to be a businessman who is claimed the things that don’t belong to him just to be rich. And not to be a geographer who doesn’t have time to look around sees what his real world is. Instead, it tells us to be like the lamplighter who is faithful in the orders and very dedicated to do his task. To be like the pilot who admits his mistakes just because of a matter of consequences. To be like the little prince who lives simply, knows how to value friendship and appreciate little things. That’s what the story wants us to learn. It’s better for us to look closely, listen well and understand deeply, explore somewhere and experience everything first for us know how to value life and appreciate everything without hurting and destroying someone and for us not to end for such a fool. III. Relate the moral of the story to any philosophical concept I relate the moral of the story to St. Augustine on the Moral Evil and Moral Obligation. Moral Evil – man’s abuse or misuse of his freedom; Evil is the very negation and privation of being and cannot be the object of God’s positive act of creation. The grown-ups, the king, the conceited man, the tippler, the businessman and the geographer was abused their freedom because of their wrong doings in themselves and in other creatures of God. The grown-ups don’t appreciate little things and their rude comments that hurt the feelings of other people; the king was greedy in power for him to rule the things that should be ruled only by God; the conceited man was selfish and forgot to value people around him; the businessman was not contented of what he had, he wanted to own the other creatures of God; the tippler was abused his health every time he drinks liquor for his only purpose of removing his shame; and the geographer that the only thing he knows is to write the information that the explorer given to him without providing a little time to look at the creations of God. These people are selfish because they just think about for their own happiness. Moral Obligation – humanity must do good and avoid evil; all human are responsible to their neighbors as they are to their own actions. The lamplighter, the narrator pilot and the little prince are the humans that do good and avoid evil. The lamplighter is very responsible in doing his task and faithful even though there are no other people in his asteroid except him; the narrator pilot who knows how to treat a stranger and value a friendship even if he will not see little prince anymore; and the little prince knows how to appreciate little things, how to love all the creations of God and just like the narrator pilot, he knows also how to value a friendship.
